At head of title: '[No. 366'. The 'Architect, Deceased' is Charles Tyrrell (1795--1832) who had worked in Soane's office from 1811 to 1817. BM, English Book Sales, p. 192.
Copy Notes Bound (7) in a collection of book sale catalogues. ALs in ink inserted after the title-leaf, addressed to Sir John Soane / 13 Lincolns Inn Fields, dated Guildhall / 6 Augst. 1833 / Dear Sir / The fourth days sale / of enclosed Catalogue contains / my late Brother Charles's Books / and I believe you were desirous / of purchasing some of them / I am / Dear Sir / Yours faithfully / Tim. Tyrrell. Timothy Tyrrell senior (1755--1832), Charles Tyrrell's father, was Soane's lifelong friend and adviser since the 1780s and possibly since his school days in Chertsey, and in 1833 helped Soane with the selection of Trustees in whom to vest his house and museum. (See references in Gillian Darley, John Soane: an accidental romantic, 1999.) There is as yet no evidence that Soane acquired any books from Tyrrell's library. Marks against lot 1191: Soane's Plans, Elevations, and Sections of Buildings, 47 plates 1788; and 1202: Soane's Plans, Elevations, and Sections of Buildings, 47 plates 1788. The name of Ch. Tyrrell added in ink on the title-page (not in Soane's hand).
Binding Recent olive green binder's cloth, gilt-lettered spine, numbered '78' in a series of sale catalogue volumes. Bound February 1925.
