Printer's statement from title-page verso. The Society of Painters in Water Colours (now the Royal Watercolour Society) was founded in 1804 to promote a medium that had not yet been accepted by the Royal Academy as suitable for serious artistic expression.

Copy Notes Many items marked in pencil; inscription at the top of p. 7 lost in the trimming. Bound (1) in a collection of miscellaneous exhibition catalogues 1809--1834, including the catalogues of the 1812 (q.v.) and 1814 (q.v.) exhibitions.

Binding C19th half brown morocco-grained cloth, grey paper boards, gilt-lettered spine title. Numbered '87' in a series of sale catalogue volumes.
