The publication of this pamphlet calling for political reform at the outbreak of war between Britain and France led to its author, a fellow of Jesus College, standing trial by the Cambridge university authorities in May of the following year, and eventually banned from the university despite an appeal and the support of many students including Coleridge (see ODNB). Includes an 'Appendix, On the Execution of Louis Capet' (pp. [45]--46) and 'The Effect of War on the Poor' (pp. [47]--49). ESTC t91630.
