An anonymous collection. The York election of 1818 was hotly contested. A similar publication is recorded: The spirit of the times! Sir Mark Masterman Sykes (1771--1823), one of the sitting candidates, was a Yorkshire landowner at Sledmere and magistrate, and was famous as an agriculturalist, a collector of paintings and fine books, and in the promotion of the Doncaster races.
