Final leaf is blank. The Scrope and Grosvenor controversy was printed for private circulation in two volumes in 1832. A projected third volume never appeared.
Copy Notes With original blue paper wrappers retained, the front inscribed in ink Scrope & Grosvenor and 93/. ALs in ink attached to inside front wrapper Mr Jos. Gwilt presents his / Compliments to Mr. Soane with / the inclosed. The proposals / issued are few in number and / Mr G. does not solicit Mr Soane's name however the Society might / feel proud of one so esteemed but / merely sends it for the purpose / of enabling Mr S. to add his / name to the list therein should / he wish to aid the object in / view. / 30 Abingdon Street / 11 Feb. 1829 / To John Soane Esqre / &c. &c. &c. Wanting the interim list of subscribers referred to in Joseph Gwilt's letter. Bound first in a collection of pamphlets.
Binding Later C19th half calf, blind double-rule borders, brown cloth boards, blind- and gilt-ruled spine, black spine-label, gilt-lettered 'Miscellanea'. Numbered '51' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
