Publication date from ESTC. Strange was an engraver known for his reproductions of European painting, who fell into disfavour with the Earl of Bute after turning down a poorly recompensed commission to engrave his portrait in 1758. ESTC n52559.

Copy Notes Bought at Christie & Manson's Strange sale, March 1834 for £31 10s. 0d. (Cheque stubs (Praed & Co.), 1834, 6/10). Tipped in at the front is A catalogue of a collection of fine proofs and early impressions of Sir Robert Strange's works, ..., Messrs. Christie, Manson & Christie, ... Thursday, March the 20th, 1834, ... (q.v.), with many prices in ink against individual lots, including lot 165 'A Fine Set Of Sir Robert Strange's Works, half bound Russia' with the annotation 50 Plates / 37 damaged and the name Sir J. Soane.

Binding C19th half russia calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-ruled borders, gilt roll-tooled spine, gilt-lettered, marbled endpapers.
