The second series. Imprint from plate publication lines. Daniell's Oriental scenery was published in six parts or series containing a total of 144 coloured aquatint plates and 6 uncoloured acquatint title-plates, beginning with the first series issued between March 1795 and January 1797 (q.v.). An octavo pamphlet of text describing the plates was issued with each part. The plates of the second series were issued in four parts between August 1797 and December 1798. Copy Notes Imperfect; the letterpress wanting the half-title. The letterpress pamphlet is bound (2) with the texts of the other series, the Description of the ... model in ivory of the Taj Mahal, ... now exhibiting at No. 5, Haymarket, 1823 (q.v.) and A catalogue of the original sketches, ... by James Hakewill; and of drawings by J.M.W. Turner, [1818?] (q.v.). The second series was bought as a set from Thomas Daniell for £25 4s., plus £2 10s. for mounting at 2s. each and £1 16s. for portfolio with leaves, 9 October 1805. (Spiers Box 'Book purchases through personal friends'). With a separate sheet of printed proposals for the second series (q.v.) loosely inserted in the volume of plates.

Binding Text: C19th half calf, gilt double-rule spine, marbled-paper boards, black spine-label.
Plates: C19th portfolio, half sheep, gilt roll-tooled borders, marbled-paper boards, green and black spine-labels. The portfolio was bought from Thomas Daniell for £1 16s. on 9 October 1805 (see copy notes). The plates mounted on guards.
