Issued in parts without title-page; the title is taken from printed blue wrappers bound at start of each volume of the Soane copy. Only thirty parts or 'livraisons' were issued, each containing six plates. At first each livraison included a letterpress 'explication provisoire' but these ceased to be supplied after the 7th livraison as explained by a note at the end of the letterpress for that part asking subscribers to wait for the 'texte definitif'. The Soane copy, which like the BAL copy is made up of before letter proof plates, includes letterpress prospectus sheets supplying the captions for the 6th and 8th through 30th livraisons. The prospectus sheet for the 15th livraison includes an 'Avis Aux Souscripteurs' attributing the delay in the promised 'texte definitif' to the poor quality of the stock of 'papier grand-jésus vélin'; the imminent delivery of new paper is announced but the letterpress promised with the 19th and 20th livraisons never materialised. The Soane copy has only 180 plates as called for in the letterpress or prospectus sheets issued with each of the thirty livraisons, compared to 183 found in the BAL copy. BAL, Early printed books, no. 580.

Salmon, marchand d'estampes, 7 Boulevard Montmartre for 200 Fr. on 9 September 1819. (Priv. Corr. XVI.B.4.2). Volume I inscribed in ink at foot of title on printed wrapper Epreuves avant la lettre and also 'Livraisons' 1e a 15e, and in pencil on front free-endpaper Le 2 vol. 10.0.0; rear free-endpaper inscribed in ink 220 f. Volume II wrapper likewise inscribed in ink Sans Lettres, and 16e a 30e. Loosely inserted in vol.
