Soane surveyed the buildings attached to Westminster Hall for the purpose of considering the site for a new Court of King's Bench in July 1820. Originally the Court of Exchequer was to have been retained, but its poor condition made demolition necessary. The foundations of the new building were laid in October 1822. See Dorothy Stroud, Sir John Soane architect (2nd ed., London 1996), pp. 221-225. The catalogue of an earlier sale held by Eversfield the previous September is also in Soane's archives (q.v.).
Copy Notes Copy 1: Prices fetched marked up in ink with totals by the page together with an Abstract and total in ink on the final blank leaf.
Copy 2: Unopened. Attached (2) with another Eversfield sale catalogue (q.v.) enclosed within a paper wrapper inscribed in ink Soane Esqr / from J. Eversfield Augt 26th 1823.
Binding Copy 1: C19th plain paper wrappers, stitched.
