Soane surveyed the buildings attached to Westminster Hall for the purpose of considering the site for a new Court of King's Bench in July 1820. The foundations of the new building were laid in October 1822, and the shell finished by February 1824. See Dorothy Stroud, Sir John Soane architect (2nd ed., London 1996), pp. 221-225.
