Imprimatur on verso of front free-endpaper signed 'Selby', Clerk of the Peace. Promulgated in the light of the recent Act of August 1823, An Act for consolidating and amending the laws relating to the building, repairing, and regulating of certain gaols and houses of correction in England and Wales, (1823. 4 Geo.IV.64). The prison at Coldbath Fields, Clerkenwell, had been erected in 1788--94 and Rules for its management were first published in 1795 (q.v.).
