The first six books of La Fontaine's enduringly popular verse fables were published in 1668, and were followed by five more books in 1678–79 and a twelfth book in 1694. Pierre Coste's introduction is dated '1742', his edition was first published in 1743.
Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting a half-title. Bought from Thomas Boone for 1s. 6d. on 9 June 1804. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.1.4.) Recto of frontispiece inscribed in pencil with Boone's price and code, and in another hand in ink ?Two [deletion]. Inscribed in ink on title-page ?Avicit; and on final page Monsieur / Prosper / De[boul?]yze or De[toub?]yse.
Binding C18th 'catspaw' mottled calf, gilt-tooled spine, maroon leather spine-label.
