Title from printed wrapper of vol. VII, no. XXXVII, with imprint of Dobbs & Page, London; A. Seguin, and Bolton & Grant, Dublin. The original series of The Lady's Magazine was published 1770--1818 (ESTC p2688); a new series, 1819-1828 and an improved [i.e. 3rd] series in 1830--1832. Although the wrapper gives the date of first publication as 1756, no publication with a similar title is recorded in ESTC at that date.

Copy Notes The issue for July 1833 only, whose presence in Soane's library is explained by the 'Description of Sir John Soane's House and Museum' by 'A Lady' (almost certainly Mrs Hofland), pp. 17--18. With printed pale yellow wrappers retained, an added engraved title-plate, index to vol. VI and 20 leaves of advertisements. Also included is a supplement printed on pink paper, entitled 'Le Follet, Courrier des Salons. Journal Des Modes', printed by J.-R. Mevrel, Paris, and having two coloured fashion plates. With a single-leaf advertisement for the 'New Pin' bound in (q.v.). Bound (6) in a volume of pamphlets and magazine parts.

Binding Later C19th half calf, blind double-rule borders, brown cloth boards, blind- and gilt-ruled spine, black spine-label, gilt-lettered 'Pamphlets / Carlisle'. Numbered '52' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
