Boaden's Memoirs of Mrs. Siddons first appeared in two volumes in 1827; the second edition was issued in 1831 and the present supplement added after Sarah Siddons's death at the publisher's request, comprising an additional preface dated July 5th, 1831' as pp. [iii]--iv in vol. I, and new concluding pages [395]--412 in vol. II. Soane apparently did not own a copy of the Memoirs; the present copy of the supplement is preceded by the title-page to vol. I of the second edition as given above, and concludes with the vol. II title-page at the end. The Museum exhibits a life-mask of Sarah Siddons.
Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on p. [395] For Sir John Soane. / with the Author's sincere respects. Presented to Soane by the author with an ALs dated from Warren St Fitzroy Square / 17th October 1831 and congratulating Soane on his recent knighthood. (Priv. Corr. XVI.F.93). James Boaden was George Soane's father-in-law.
Binding C20th brown paper taped wrappers, inscribed in ink on upper wrapper 'James Boaden / Prospectus 2nd vol / Memoirs. Mrs Siddons. / 1831 / Accont of Death & Funeral / at Paddington in 1831'.
