Folded half-sheet, conjugate leaf blank. Printed letter from Charles Bell, first Professor of Anatomy and Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons, signed and dated at end 'Dec. 20. 1824', soliciting votes to support his application for the vacant position as Professor of Anatomy at the Royal Academy. In the event, the position was given to Joseph Henry Green, also of the Royal College of Surgeons, who served from 1825 to 1852, in succession to Sir Anthony Carlisle who had served since 1808 when the previous incumbent, John Sheldon had died. In his letter Bell states that he 'had the honor of addressing you at the time of his election, sixteen years ago; ...'; a copy of the undated printed letter produced on that occasion is also in Soane's archive (q.v.).
