Drop-head title. Dated at end 'Athenaion, October 18th, 1824' followed by a 'Circular' letter, dated 'Oct. 20th, 1824', printed at the end and signed by B.P. Capper, assistant secretary, inviting applications for names to be inserted as 'Subscribers, Patrons, Members, Fellows, or Proprietors; and in the latter case, for what Share or Shares.' The wood-engraved vignette at head is by G Bonner after W.C. Brook. Textual changes in MS. including the alteration of the date of the 'commemoration of the Fete of Minerva' from 'Tuesday the 23rd of November' to Thursday the 13 day of January. A review in The London Magazine for January 1825 (pp. 113--115) lampooned the prospectus of the new 'Literary Society' for its use of 'words without grammar'.
