Particulars and conditions of sale of the lifehold interest of George Smith, Esquire, aged about forty-three years, in and to the eligible estates, called Burnhall; as also the eligible estate, called Poplar Row, situate in the parishes of St. Oswald, and Elwich, in the county of Durham, of the annual value of seven hundred and fifty-five pounds and upwards. The lifehold interest in and to said estates will be (by order of the assignees) sold by auction by Mr. Christie, at his Great Room, Pall Mall, on Tuesday, December 10, 1793, ... in two lots.

Drop-head title. Docket title: 'Particulars Of The Lifehold Interest of Estates, In The County of Durham'. Christie also arranged for the sale of the Piercefield estate for George Smith's assignees on the same day (q.v.). Soane made the acquaintance of George Smith through their mutual friend, Rowland Burdon, undertaking a commission for a cow byre at Burn Hall in 1783; a scheme for a new house was set aside when Smith purchased the Piercefield estate in 1785.
