4 p. ; 22.3 cm. (8°)

Drop-head title. The 'Address' - written by Britton in collaboration with Edward W. Brayley and dated August 26th, 1835 - was occasioned by the destruction of the Palace of Westminster by fire in October 1834 and the ensuing plans for new houses of parliament. Among the subjects Britton and Brayley wanted considered was whether it was expedient to demolish the surviving buildings by Soane. In the event, they were demolished. This is an extract from the eighth number of Britton and Brayley's History and description of the late Houses of Parliament and ancient Palace of Westminster, originally intended to be published in ten monthly parts. However, the compilation of the historical material occasioned delays and a great expansion of the text such that the work (no copy of which is in Soane's library) was not completed until 1836. See BAL, Early printed books, no. 366.
