A celebration of Soane's knighthood the previous September by Peter Coxe, the writer, poet and auctioneer and a personal friend of Soane, who was given a handsome presentation copy in MS. This is bound in dark blue calf, tooled in blind and gilt, and direct-lettered in gilt on the upper board 'To/ Sir John Soane/ Royal Academician/ &c. &c. &c./ From/ The Author Of The/ Social Day.' The social day: a poem, in four cantos was published in 1823 (q.v.).

Copy Notes Copies 2--6 and 8--15 are unopened. Fourteen copies of the poem (presumably copies 2--15) were found in the second of three repositories containing correspondence, miscellaneous papers and objects, sealed by Soane in November 1836 with directions that they should be opened on 22 November (the anniversary of his wife's death) in 1866, 1886 and 1896 respectively.
