A handbill reporting the committee's success 'in obtaining the option of buying the freehold of the Hungerford Estate, with all its market privileges, ... for the sum of 110,000l. if that sum, together with 100,000l. required for reconstructing the market and the houses ... could be raised by 100l. shares', and announcing a meeting on 26 February to promote the plan. William Courtenay was Clerk to Parliament and a member of the provisional committee of the Market.
