'The Patentee's Invention has stood the test of trial for 12 months under the inspection of many eminent and scientific Gentlemen, ... Its self-acting movements are so complete, that it thoroughly cleanses & purifies itself instantly after use, without the least personal interference, and at the same time preventing the return of the smallest particle of offensive air ...'.

Copy Notes ALs in ink inscribed on blank p. [1], requesting Soane's inspection of the invention and enquiring about tendering for plumbing jobs. Previously folded as a letter addressed in ink on blank p. [4] to J. Soane Esqre / 13 Lincoln's Inn, and endorsed in ink 1828 / May 3d / Mr. Downe / Water Closet / Maker.
