FANELLI, Francesco (fl. 1608--1665)
Engr. title-pl., [15] pl. ; 30.4 cm. (2°)

This and the suite of Dessins de grottes (q.v. Record 6499) are later impressions of plates first published in Fanelli's Varie architeture, Paris, 1661. Langlois is probably responsible for the division into two suites, adding a title and imprint and erasing the numbering of the fountain plates. Both suites are included in some copies of the Architecture à la mode issued by Langlois from the 1690s or earlier, and later by Jean Mariette, c. 1710, as here (q.v.). See BAL, Early printed books, no. 1020 and Guilmard, p. 320. See also Berlin Kat. (3575) 358 and Guilmard p. 314.

Copy Notes Bound as pencil numbers 87--102 in Mariette, L'architecture à la mode (q.v., record 6495).

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt tooled spine, red spine label gilt lettered 'Architec/ A La/ Mode', blind lettered 'Tome/ II', circular paper label numbered in ink '151'.
