Dated 'Charlotte Street, June 1, 1809.' The author announces that having completed his illustrations of the cathedrals of Canterbury and York, he would not continue with his plan to illustrate the rest of the cathedrals until he was assured of 200 subscriptions. A reference in the text to the quality of 'The accompanying Number' suggests that some copies at least were issued, as here, with Wild's Twelve perspective views of ... York, 1809 (q.v.). The series was in the event revived with volumes for Lichfield and Chester in 1813. BAL, Early printed books, no. 3644.
