This is an expanded edition of the work originally published for private distribution only (q.v.). See catalogue entry for that edition (q.v.) which provides a summary of the complex publishing history of A brief statement given in BAL 3087. There is a group of proof before letter plates some with corrections in ink in Mandelbrote packet 22, consisting of the etched title-pl., pl. 1-24 and pl 21*. Mandelbrote packet 6 contains a group of 10 loose plates from A brief statement, some in duplicate and triplicate and some unrelated plates.
