Soane, Sir John (1753--1837). Designs for Public and Private Buildings - Criticism
[Plans, elevations, and perspective views, of Pitzhanger Manor-House. French]
8 p., XII litho. pl. ; 30.2 cm. (royal 4°)

Anonymous translation of Plans, elevations, and perspective views, of Pitzhanger Manor-House, 1833. The eight complete copies in the Soane Museum are bound first, before the English text (q.v.) and copies of the 1832 'edition' of Soane's description of the Museum in French (q.v.) and English (q.v.). Although both the French and English texts contain references to the twelve plates, the Soane volumes contain only one set of the plates, bound with the French translation. The plates were drawn by Charles James Richardson and lithographed by Charles Ingrey. There are no signatures and the French and English versions could thus be distributed separately. Sixty-four copies of the French text ('one sheet - with alterations') were printed by James Moyes on 23 February 1833. (Archives 7/17/4). The manuscript of the French translation, corrected by Soane, is also preserved (Soane Case 67). The translation was presumably made by Martin Saurin, ancien avocat, LL. D. de l'Académie d'Aix et de l'Université de France who translated the Description de la maison..., 1832 (q.v.).
