LOWE, Samuel (d. 1826)
List of works in vitreous colours, painted on glass by Samuel Lowe, under the instructions of the late Mr. Eginton.
Birmingham (Place), [c. 1810--16?].
[2] p. ; 23.4 cm. (4º)

Francis Eginton (1736/7--1805), one of the leading glass painters of his generation, was increasingly assisted by his son William Raphael and son-in-law Samuel Lowe in the execution of his commissions from 1802 onwards. After Eginton's death the establishment passed to his widow Maria, and eventually broke up in 1811, with both William Eginton and Samuel Lowe establishing successful independent careers in glass painting. (ODNB.) The present list of works, including six commissions 'since Mr. Eginton's death, for his Widow' and accompanying a Christie's sale catalogue dated 1816, is printed on different paper and watermarked 'GATER/ 1809', suggesting it was issued between 1810 and 1816, most likely after Maria Eginton's death in 1811. From 1818 Lowe was active in Newman Street, London.

Copy Notes Inserted in Christie's sale catalogue of stained glass executed by Lowe, 19 July 1816 (q.v.).
