A further continuation of The English rogue described (1772 ed., q.v.), a picaresque narrative by Richard Head first published in 1665. The bookseller Francis Kirkman, having acquired the rights to the original work, brought out further editions and pressed Head to write a continuation. When Head declined, Kirkman apparently wrote the second part himself, the earliest extant edition of which was published in 1671 (q.v.). In the same year Kirkman published the first editions of parts 3 and 4. Although Head continued to deny his authorship of the continuations, in all likelihood there was collaboration. Text and register are continous despite numerous errors in pagination. Each plate is divided into six images numbered 1--6, 7--12, 13--18 and 19--24. ESTC r26656.

Copy Notes The Soane copy is part of a uniformly bound mixed set, with the 1682 edition of part 1 (q.v.), the 1671 edition of part 2 (q.v.) and the 1680 edition of part 4 (q.v.).
