Printer's statement from title-page verso and colophon: Printed by S. Jackson, Romney. First published anonymously in 1791 by the evangelical preacher, Richard Cecil, and reissued in numerous editions. This undated edition, of which no other copy has been traced, has a final leaf listing 'New Books To be had of T. Hamilton, 33, Paternoster-Row, ...' which includes Joseph Bellamy's True religion delineated, the third edition of which was printed by W. Heney, for W. Baynes, and T. Hamilton, 1812; and Claudius Buchanan's Christian researches in Asia, first published as a separate work in 1811, with a third edition printed for J. Ogle, and Manners & Millar, Edinburgh; M. Ogle, Glasgow; Cadell & Davies, R. Ogle, and T. Hamilton, London; and T. Johnstone, Dublin, 1812.

Copy Notes One of the two editions in Soane's library (the other being a copy of the 8th ed., 1806, q.v.) is thought to have been sent to him on the occasion of Mrs Soane's death by Lady Liverpool, the youngest daughter of Soane's early patron the Bishop of Derry, with a letter dated 30 November [1815] enclosing that w[hi]ch / has sooth'd the anguish / of many an afflicted / Heart under a Trial / similar to yours.
