Title taken from MS. note in ink at head of first leaf of text. Summaries of eight lectures on architecture given by Britton at the Theatre of the Bristol Institution for the Advancement of Science and Art in Park Street, Bristol, together with the summary of a further lecture read before the Literary and Philosophical Society of Bristol, 19 October 1833, on the road-ways of England 'with Remarks on the Benefits likely to arise from a Rail-Road'. The first lecture included a passage praising Soane's promotion of architecture and his recent bequest to the public of his 'valuable Museum, containing an immense collection of books, drawings, casts, and fragments, &c. ...'.

Copy Notes The text is closely cropped and laid down on the leaves of an octavo volume, interleaved with leaves apparently made up of copies of the engraved title-page to no. IV of George Fennel Robson's Picturesque views of the English cities, edited and published by John Britton in 1828, pasted face to face (prospectus dated December 1825, q.v.). Front free-endpaper inscribed in ink To / Sir John Soane / &c &c &c / from J Britton / As a mark of gratitude -- / for many acts of kindness -- / Novr 1833.

Binding C19th half maroon roan, blind double-ruled borders, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-ruled spine direct-lettered in gilt 'Britton's Lectures. Analysis.'
