The fifth volume in an annual publication consisting of biographies of famous Englishmen (and one woman) of the day, which commenced publication with a volume for 1798 which had reached its third edition in 1801 (q.v.). The biographies are largely attributed to Alexander Stephens; the portraits are of Lord Auckland, William Gifford, Thomas Busby, Edward Jenner, the Earl of Macartney, John Palmer, Dr William Thomson, and Mrs Billington. 'Price Half a Guinea in Boards' at foot of title-page. With a leaf advertising the contents of the first four volumes preceding the main text.

Copy Notes Bound as vol. V to match a set with the volumes for 1798--9 (q.v.), 1799--1800 (q.v.), 1800--1801 (q.v.), and 1801--1802 (q.v.). This volume only was bound by (and possibly purchased from?) Edward Lawrence for 10s. 6d. on 1 December 1802. (Archives 7/4/20).
