A presentation album of proof printings of Charles Turner's engraving of Francis Chantrey's bust of Soane completed in 1829, with caption title as above; imprint from plate publication line dated 'Jany. 1832'. Laid down in an album interleaved with tissue paper guards are a pencil and wash drawing inscribed in pencil bottom left Drawing by the [illegible] / Toucht (?) by J. Jackson; a Toucht Proof from the Bust / by C. Turner; first, second, third, and fourth proofs before letters; and two copies of the lettered plate. A bill in Soane's archive records the cost of engraving the steel plate as £57 15s. 0d. and a payment of 12 guineas to Mr. Corbould for the drawing, 24 February 1831. (Archive 7/16/4).

Copy Notes The first leaf bears a MS. dedication to Soane from the engraver, dated 8 February 1832: 'Dear Sir / As I had the pleasure of presenting you / a few proofs of your portrait in an unfinish'd / state, from the painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence, / may I be permitted now, to offer you similar / specimens, from that admirable work of Art / Your Bust, by Mr.. Chantrey, which you have / so kindly allowed me the pleasure to engrave, / ...'.

Binding C19th half dark blue roan, blind-tooled borders, buff paper boards, blind double-ruled spine.
