An album containing a collection of press cuttings and some MS. criticisms of Associate members of the Royal Academy laid down on 36 leaves, arranged in alphabetical order, many with the sources and dates between 1775 and 1813 recorded in MS. The volume corresponds to lot 820 on the third day of Sotheby and Son's sale of Sir Thomas Lawrence's library in June 1830 (q.v.), and was probably assembled by Joseph Farington.

Copy Notes Purchased on Soane's behalf by John Britton at the Lawrence sale, lot 815 for £5 17s. 6d. on 28 June 1830. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.7.4). With a summary index of the artists compiled by A.T. Bolton and a list of contents in an unidentified curatorial hand tipped in at the front.

Binding C19th half russia calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-ruled spine with gilt-lettered spine-title 'Criticisms Associates'. The end-leaves are watermarked 'H SMITH / 1810'.
