Printer's imprint of T. Brettell on verso of title-pages. Publisher's advertisements for 'Biographical Works, Lately Published ...' on final leaf of vol. I, and for 'New Books, ...' on final 4 pp. of vol. II. The Reminiscences of the Irish tenor and composer Michael Kelly were edited by Theodore Hook from material supplied by Kelly and published in the year of his death (see Grove Dictionary of Music s.v. Kelly, Michael). This edition includes an engraved double plate of music for the duet 'Grazie agl' inganni tuoi', to lyrics by Metastasio and a melody by Michael Kelly arranged by Mozart 'with variations at Vienna in the year 1787'. Also in Soane's library is a concert programme for a Restoration concert held in 1789 on the occasion of the recovery of King George III from his first fit of insanity (q.v.), in which Kelly sang alongside Soane's friend since his grand tour in Italy, the singer Anna Selina [Nancy] Storace.

Copy Notes Copy 1: Untrimmed edges. In an ALs dated 25 April 1825 Kelly invited Soane to add his name to a private subscription for a few copies, the list of patrons being headed by the King. (Priv. Corr. I.K.3).

Binding Copy 1: C19th publisher's full blue linen with printed paper label on upper covers reading 'Subscriber's Copy. Fine Paper. Price £.2 2s.', red morocco spine-labels.
Copy 2: C19th calf. A bill dated 22 March 1826 survives for binding 'Kelly's Reminiscences 2 vols 8vo.' in 'C[al]f gilt b[oar]ds &c.' from Hood & McCullock for 7s. (3s. 6d. each volume). (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.6).
