Forms nos. XLI--XLVI of Murray's (later Tegg's) 'Family Library'. Index in vol. VI. According to the preface, signed 'W.F.T.' and dated January 1834, 'This work on Universal History comprehends the whole course of Lectures on that subject delivered by the Author, while Professor of Civil History and Greek and Roman Antiquities in the University of Edinburgh.' The author died before completing the work, an enlargement of his Elements of general history first published in 1801. The lectures were first delivered in 1782.
Copy Notes Volumes I, III and V have a bookseller's label on first pastedown reading 'Sold by T. & W. Boone'. Volumes II--VI unopened.
