Volume II only of an anonymous French translation of Cervantes's Novelas ejemplares in two volumes. The additional engraved title-page reading 'Nouvelles De Cervantes' with the undated imprint of Etienne Lucas and the full-page engravings facing the first page of each novella are included in the pagination and register; added engraved title-page printed as leaf A6]. Title-page printed in red and black. The final forty-five pages contain an alphabetically arranged 'Catalogue De Livres Tant Anciens que Modernes, qui se trouvent A Amsterdam, Chez N. Etienne Lucas, Libraire, ...'. Contents: Le mariage trompeur.-- Entretiens de Scipion et de Bergance. -- L'espagnole angloise. -- Les deux amantes. -- Le jaloux d'Estremadure. -- Cornelie.

Copy Notes Bought as a set with a copy of vol. I of the second edition, 1709 (q.v.). Former ownership inscription concealed by Soane bookplate on front pastedown, possibly B[illegible]'s/ L[ibrar?]y/ M[ilsom?] Street/ [Ba]th. Device (possibly a chemical symbol?) inscribed in ink on title-page. Losses to pp. 223--8 partly repaired with text supplied in ink in an eighteenth-century hand.

Binding Full C18th parchment, blind double-rule borders, paper spine-label with MS. spine-title in ink. Bound uniformly with a copy of vol. I, second edition, 1709 (q.v.).
