Originally published anonymously in 1822 with a second part following in 1828. This is the first illustrated edition, with steel-engraved head and tail-pieces mostly done by Edward Goodall, after Turner, Thomas Stothard and other English painters. The edition was well received, as was a companion edition of his other Poems, 1834 (q.v.), including his best-known work, 'The Pleasures of Memory', which was highly praised by Lord Byron. Printer's imprint of Thomas Davison, London, on the half-title verso and colophon. The final leaf advertises 'By the same Author, Poems, ... In one Volume duodecimo. Price 12s.' with 50 wood-engravings after Stothard. Tinker, 1763; NCBEL, III:181.

Copy Notes Some plain paper guards. Untrimmed edges. Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper From the Author. Possibly presented on the same occasion as the companion edition of Rogers's Poems (q.v.).

Binding Publisher's original C19th buff paper boards, paper spine-label with printed title 'Italy, A Poem. 2l. 2s.'. With binder's label affixed to bottom of final pastedown reading 'F.
