GERLACH, Philipp (1679--1748)
Inv. p. Gerlach ...
Augsburg (Place), hæred. Jerem. Wolff excudit Aug. Vind.,, [173-?].
4 engr. pl. ; 50.4 cm. (2º)

Title, credit and imprint from pl. 1, being followed by a side elevation (pl. 2), section (pl. 3) and plan (pl. 4). All four plates also credit C.H. Horst as draughtsman and J.G. Ringle ('Ringlen') as engraver. Gerlach's Jerusalem Church was built 1726--28, but this undated suite is closely related to others on Gerlach's buildings published by Wolff's heirs (who were in business from 1724 until at least 1748), and may not have appeared until the following decade. See entry for C.H. Horst, Plan general de la maison ... de Schulemburg, and see also J.G. Pinz, Plan general de la maison ... de Marschall, with which the present work is here bound. Berlin Kat. 2132 groups this and the suite on the Firedrichshospital and its church (q.v.) with a suite of three plates on an 'Eglise Paroissale' by Gerlach.

Copy Notes Bound (4) with the Pfeffel issue of J.E. (q.v.); and two suites (q.v.; q.v.) and other engravings of Leipzig published by Peter Schenk the elder, in a volume purchased for £2 11s. at the sale of John Nash's library (R.H. Evans' sale catalogue, q.v.), 15--20 July 1835, 4th day, lot 925. (Spiers Box, Purchases through personal friends; Curatorial Papers: Bailey, outsize box 16). Plate 1 inscribed in pencil XVI.
