This is the first issue of the first edition with an errata slip tipped-in at the end. See J.D. Fleeman, A bibliography of the works of Samuel Johnson, London 2000, pp. 1756--8 (816.DW/1). The two engraved plates contain facsimiles of Johnson's handwriting. Richard Duppa was assisted in his 'illustrative notes' by Mrs. Piozzi (Hesther Thrale). Soane owned four other works by Duppa, including his book of botanical plates, Illustrations of the lotus of antiquity, 1813 (q.v.), to which Soane acknowledged an obligation in his lecture notes.
Binding C19th half calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt-ruled spine, black morocco spine-label reading 'Johnsons / Journey'. Bound by Edwin Hutchinson for 1s. 5d., 23 June 1829. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.29).
