First published in 1780, this is the first edition to contain the supplement (with separate title and half-title, continuous pagination and register), pp. [411]--454, [2], 'A Comparative View of the Russian Discoveries with those made by Captains Cook and Clerke; and a sketch of what remains to be ascertained by future navigators' (also published separately in 4o). The plates engraved by Thomas Kitchin include a view depicting the Chinese town of Maimatschin. ESTC t134276.

Copy Notes ESTC indicates that the leaf numbered iii on the recto and signed *a3, containing the 'Advertisement' to the third edition and errata, has been inserted before p. xvii; here it is inserted before p. v.
