De Bosset, a Swiss in the British army, arrived in the Ionian Islands in 1809. At various times over the next ten years he was stationed in Levkas, Zante, but principally Cephalonia where as British Resident from 1810--1814 he acquired a considerable collection of antiquities and commenced the improvements completed later by Napier. In 1816 de Bosset was sent by Sir Thomas Maitland, Governor of Malta and Lord High Commissioner in the Ionian Islands, to command the fortress at Parga. De Bosset had sympathies with the Pargiote desire to remain part of the Ionian Islands, resulting in his recall and dismissal by Maitland.
