First published in 1795. Pratt was a prolific man of letters who after an unsuccessful acting career under the stage name Courtney Melmoth supported himself by his pen. His reception by contemporaries was mixed; Charles Lamb described the Gleanings, a varied collection of anecdotes, impressions and poems, as 'a wretched assortment of vapid feelings'. 'Humanity, Or The Rights Of Nature: A Poem In Two Books' (p. [303]--395) has its own half-title in vol. III as does 'Dialogue Letters ... In English, German And Dutch' (p. [397]--415). Volume III has final page advertising another work by the author. ESTC n3038.

Binding C19th calf, gilt-ruled borders, blind-tooled edges, green morocco spine-labels. Uniform with Pratt's Gleanings in England, 1799 (q.v.), the four volumes bound by Hood & McCullock for 12s., 24 May 1826. (Archive 16/12/38).
