Copy Notes From the library of the Frederick Augustus, Duke of York (1763--1827), as are two further masonic works in Soane's library, Lenoir's La franche-maçonnerie rendue à sa véritable origine, 1814 (q.v.) and Lalande's Abrégé de l'histoire de la franche-maçonnerie, 1779 (q.v.), which have the same armorial binding stamp. The present work and the copy of Lalande are both inscribed in pencil by the unidentified bookseller The Duke of York's Copy; the same hand has inscribed the front endpapers in all three works as Collated. Front pastedown also inscribed in pencil with serif monogram(?) C.P.B. and with library shelf-mark in pencil G3[over]12.

Binding C18th calf, spine thick-ruled and dotted in gilt with black and red morocco spine-labels, the lower gilt-stamped with the Garter and royal crown encircling the royal lion (22 x 12 mm), the crest of Frederick Augustus, Duke of York.
