Originally published in 1762. At head of title: 'The Only Genuine Edition'; at foot: 'Beware of Counterfeits!!!'. A note on the verso of the title-page complains of a 'spurious' edition having been 'obtruded ... on the public.' The 'Advertisement' is signed 'R.S.' The last twelve pages contain 'List of Lodges, with their Numbers, as altered by Order of the Grand Lodge, April 18, 1792'.

Copy Notes Recto of frontispiece plate inscribed in pencil 1866--96, the dates specified by Soane for the opening of receptacles sealed according to his instructions.
