Weekly. Nos. 1--362, in annual volumes. The volume for 1817 has half-title and is 'Second Edition'. Founded by the publisher Henry Colburn in January 1817 and edited by William Jerdan from July of the same year, this was the first periodical of its kind, a weekly paper dedicated to literature and the arts, rather than chiefly to politics, and at its peak from the 1820s to the 1840s, Jerdan's reviews played in important part in the commercial success or otherwise of works described in its pages.

Copy 2: A copy of issue no. 1023, for Saturday August 27, 1836, containing a review of Soane's Description of the .... residence of Sir John Soane, [1835]. Bound (7) in a collection of pamphlets on painting.
Copy 3: A copy of issue no. 949, for Saturday March 28, 1835, containing an account of the presentation of the Soane Medal (pp. 201--2). The drop-head title reads 'The London Literary Gazette; ...'; running title as before. Inscribed in ink and pencil by A.T. Bolton at head of title Presentation Soane Medal. Tuesday. March 24. 1835. Loosely inserted at the end of an album of newspaper cuttings from Soane's own time compiled after 1906.

Binding Copy 1: C19th half calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-ruled spines, red morocco spine-labels.
Copy 2: C19th maroon goatskin, blind-ruled borders and spine, marbled-paper boards. Numbered '111' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
Copy 3: C20th full goatskin, borders and spine roll-tooled in blind, upper cover with paper label.
