LA BELLE ASSEMBLÉE
La Belle Assemblée; for February, 1810. A new series. Containing a new system of botany, by Dr. Thornton; and a series of original music, by Mr Hook. ...
London: printed by and for John Bell, proprietor of the Weekly Messenger, 1810.
[3], 60--112 p., [4] pl. (1 fold., 1 hand-col.) ; 23.6 cm. (4º)

La Belle Assemblée, or Bell's Court and Fashionable Magazine commenced publication in February 1806, and continued through various changes of title until 1847. On the verso of the title is an advertisement for 'an Extra Quantity of the First Number of the New Series' published for the convenience of new subscribers. The plates are a portrait of the Duchess of Devonshire to accompany a biographical sketch, a folded plate of music printed on both sides, a plate showing a decorative frieze with Greek key and foliate motifs, and a hand-coloured fashion plate. John Bell was a major figure in the London printing and book trade who specialized in relatively cheap pocket format classics and in newspapers and magazines.
