Cook, a Scottish physician, travelled to Russia for his health in 1736 and entered the employment of Prince Golitsyn, travelling with him in Russia and Tartary during the period of the Russo-Turkish War (1735--1739), the campaigns of the Iranian ruler Nadir Shah, and war with Sweden in the 1740s, returning to Scotland in 1751. With a list of subscribers at the end of vol. II. ESTC t63105.

Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone for 6s., 4 July 1815. (Spiers Box). Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper of vol. I John Soane / L. I. Fields.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt-ruled spine. Vol. I hand-lettered 'Cook's / Travels', possibly in Soane's hand.
