Revision of Abel Boyer's translation which first appeared in 1714. Count Anthony Hamilton was the brother-in-law of Philibert, Comte de Gramont, and the Mémoires met with critical acclaim when they were published in French in 1713 after circulating in manuscript. The 77 engraved portraits engraved by W.N. Gardiner after S. Harding are a reissue of those used for the Edwards French edition of [1793] (q.v.); the engraved scene of 'Somer Hill' is here used as a title vignette. Copy Notes Inscribed in pencil on verso of first free-endpaper very fine Copy and a price, altered into illegibility. The 'Directions' marked up in pencil to confirm the presence of the 78 plates which are numbered in pencil throughout.

Binding Contemporary late C18th red straight-grained morocco, elaborate gilt-tooled borders, gilt-ruled spine and direct spine-title, gilt text block edges.
