Imprint name from tome II title-page; main title-page includes woodcut printer's device with 'Palma Gvar', but not the full name. A Vulgate Latin Bible which according to Masch follows the editions of Robertus Stephanus (second octavo edition, 1545, q.v.); Masch says that the Bible text is from Stephanus' edition of 1557. This edition also resembles some Lyons editions, e.g. that published 'Apud Petrum Santandreanum', 1574. It includes chapter summaries, marginal references and variant readings, some explanatory notes. See A.G. Masch, Bibliotheca sacra, pt 2, v. 3, p. 319. Tome I preliminary leaves [1]--[32] include title-leaf with 'Exhortatio' on verso, 'Svmma ... Scriptvræ', index of O.T. passages cited in the N.T., and prefaces by Jerome (including prefaces to individual books). Tome II has title-page reading 'Tomvs Secvndvs Bibliorvm, continens Prophetas, & libros Machabæorum, atq; Noui Testamenti.' and imprint 'Basileæ, Per Thomam Gvarinvm' dated 1578; verso blank. New Testament has separate pagination and title-page reafing 'D.N. Iesv Christi Nouum testamentum, siue foedus.' with imprint as above. In colophon to tome II: Excudebat Thomas Guarinus.

Copy Notes Imperfect; tome II wanting final [6] leaves of sig. 2T8. Without the three folded maps described in Cambridge University Library copy (BSS.120.B78.2-3) and collation above. Final leaves torn with loss of text. Cropped with loss of fore-edge text in margins. Inscription in ink on first free end-paper: J.W.M.C.O, [and] J. Waldgrave.

Binding C17th(?) full calf, blind-tooled fillets on covers and spine, gilt-lettered spine. Marbled-paper pastedowns with strips of mottled paper along edges.
