Four editions of Hooper's Rational recreations appeared between 1774 and 1794, with the fourth being reissued in the early years of the nineteenth century. The Soane copy is a mixed set comprising volume I in the first edition (1774), volume II in the "third edition, corrected" (1787), and volumes III and IV in the "second edition, corrected" (1783).
