This work originally appeared as a single-volume collection in 1796. The illustrations are wood-engraved head- and tail-pieces designed and cut by Thomas and James Bewick and others. Includes dedicatory verses in vol. I signed 'G.L.W.' (i.e. Gregory Lewis Way). Volume I is a copy of the first issue without 'vol. I' on the title-page and no full-stop at the end of the title; a subsequent issue of vol. I has a cancel title-page distinguishing it as 'Vol. 1'. ESTC t12203, t35124.

Binding C19th calf, gilt-panelled covers, gilt-tooled spines, olive morocco spine-labels, gilt edges.
